When is a Garden Gnome not a Garden Gnome? That is the Question! In the English language the traditional gnome statue has typically been known as the "garden gnome". In More recent times the terms "yard gnome" and "lawn gnome" have become interchangable and are completely acceptable to use.  So, take your pick...the terms all refer to the same garden statuary. You say "lawn Gnome" I say "yard gnome".
